Tableau Courses

Tableau for marketing and growth

Six channel dashboards that disagree with each other, and no defensible answer to which spend actually worked.

Marketing has more data sources than any other function and less agreement about what the numbers mean. Six channel dashboards that each define a conversion differently will produce six answers, and Tableau will render all of them confidently.

The technical work here is mostly joining and relating platform exports correctly, then building cohort views with table calculations. Get the model right and the charts are easy.

What you will actually be asked to build

Dashboards

  • Multi-channel campaign performance
  • Cohort and retention curves
  • Attribution and blended CAC
  • Customer segmentation

Tableau skills they depend on

  • Blending and relationships across ad platforms
  • Table calculations for cohort grids
  • Parameter actions for channel switching
  • Set actions for segment drill-down
Get relationships and blending right before anything else. Almost every broken marketing dashboard is a data model problem wearing a chart.

Where to learn it

3 courses that teach these skills

None of these is branded as a marketing course. They are the courses that teach the techniques the work above actually needs. Reviewed August 2026.

  1. Data Analyst in Tableau

DataCamp · Career track, 9 courses

    Our pick

Nine courses that move from connecting data sources through calculated fields and LOD expressions to presentation-ready dashboards, mapped against the Tableau Certified Data Analyst exam domains.

Best for The clearest single route from 'I can build a chart' to 'I can sit the Data Analyst exam'.
Watch out Exam-aligned is not the same as exam preparation. You still want timed practice questions before you book.
    • Exam aligned
    • Structured path
Length About 42 hours Cost DataCamp subscription
  2. Advanced Tableau Desktop

    Maven Analytics · Self-paced, project-based

    Our pick

The strongest paid advanced course we have taken. Custom LOD expressions, RegEx, parameter and set actions, dynamic formatting, animations and geospatial work, all hung on a single running project.

Best for Practitioners who want advanced technique taught in the context of a real build.
Watch out Assumes genuine fluency with calculated fields. Arrive without that and the first module will lose you.
    • Project-based
    • Set actions
    • LOD
Length Self-paced Cost One-off purchase or Maven subscription
  3. Data Visualization with Tableau Public

    Coursera · Single course

Focused on the free Tableau Public edition, which matters if you do not have a Desktop licence. Strong on the design and storytelling side rather than the mechanics.

Best for Learning without a paid Tableau licence, and improving how your charts read.
Watch out Tableau Public cannot connect to most enterprise data sources and saves work publicly.
    • No licence needed
    • Design
Length Multi-week course Cost Coursera subscription, audit option available

Marketing Tableau questions

What Tableau skills do marketing analysts need most?

Relationships and blending across ad platform exports, table calculations for cohort and retention grids, parameter actions for switching channels or metrics inside one view, and set actions for segment drill-down.

The single most common failure is treating a data-model problem as a chart problem. Most broken marketing dashboards are a grain mismatch between platforms, not a bad visualisation.

Can Tableau do marketing attribution?

Tableau can report on an attribution model. It is not the right place to build one.

Calculate the attribution upstream, in the warehouse or in Tableau Prep, then bring the results into the workbook. Attempting multi-touch attribution in calculated fields produces workbooks that are slow and impossible to audit.

How do I build a cohort retention chart in Tableau?

Cohort grids are a table calculation problem. You need a cohort dimension, a periods-since-acquisition measure, and a table calculation whose addressing and partitioning you have set deliberately rather than accepted by default.

Any intermediate course that covers table calculation addressing properly will get you there. The DataCamp analyst track is the most direct route.
